Nobody in world happy with U.S. behavior: Zarif

TEHRAN – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says nobody in the world is happy with what the U.S. is doing, but not everybody is ready to pay as Iran does.

“Are they ready to transform this unhappiness into cost, that is, pay something to show their unhappiness? To pay to prevent the future which America” is creating, Zarif told the “Now Sun” program on Sunday.

The foreign minister said President Donald Trump is creating a global crisis in order deflect attention from his personal problems.

“Now the wall of sanctions is broken, only the Americans are bullying, they are exerting pressure. Nobody ever believed Americans would stop pressing Iran. This is why from the beginning we believed that we should preserve our existing economic ties with Russia, China, and European countries.”

The chief diplomat went on to stress that right now the most intense focus of Americans is to create “psychological pressure” on Iran and its trading partners. “The most they do is to create psychological pressure, both on Iranians and our international partners. They try for example to tell them: ‘Don't you plan to visit America? Aren't you going to get American visas? Why are you dealing with Iranians?’”

“This means when they have lost their shots, just as they have lost their shot against their closest allies, they go for companies and officially threaten them. This means they want to change the game through a psychological atmosphere.”

Pinpointing Iran’s unique policy in the region, Zarif said, “Anybody you see in this region thinks he can either buy security and progress, or gain security by buying weapons or nuclear arms. Well, the Islamic Republic is none of these. The Islamic Republic owes its security, progress, and development to people.”

He added, “Today, despite all the scramble of America, there still exists global consensus against America. And we are still working on this global consensus and we hope, I am certain, that we will win; on one side by relying on domestic capabilities, and on the other side by using the new international circumstances, to get through this stage.”

Zarif said the U.S. is isolated over its exit from the JCPOA, the official name for the 2015 nuclear agreement. “Even the government of Canada has stood up against the government of America. All America’s allies in NATO have stood up against America. Only two or three countries to our south, with really shortsighted reasons, and the Zionist regime which is obvious; it’s these who stand by America. This is the price America is paying.”

“You just look at this, since Mr. Trump announced he was leaving the JCPOA, the Americans did not attain the results they wanted. For this reason, Mr. Pompeo has made a couple of speeches. Mr. Trump himself has staged a show saying they want to hold direct talks. Then they formed the action group.”

He further said, “When Mr. Obama came to us for talks, it was not us who negotiated. It was the backing of people (for the establishment) which had disappointed Obama with (his) sanctions so they came for talks with us. This very same backing can disappoint Mr. Trump.”
